i was inspired by pain but had trouble grasping the pen.
knuckles gnarled, rheumatoid, bent by arthritic
experience, each word pushed out through a bent
stylus, scraping scrawled notes etched deep into a cold
surface somewhere beneath unresponsive skin.
each scrape a glib attempt of will,
the nib of the quill controlled by
my inability to hold on to relief.
i was inspired by pain but had trouble grasping the pen,
my chief complaint kept secret, no moans or wails
heard by audience or reader. I taunt myself again,
teasing me with the inability to scream,
another ream of paper wadded, trashed;
i lashed out inspiration in pale white scratches
faint from being unable to write my affliction.
anguish requires refined diction.
refined diction
