She thought Stridefellow was going to love
Her forever at least that was the old
Theory and the belief she held until
The morning she found a copy of the
Letter he’d written to that Cummings girl
Professing his never-ending love and
When she thought of that girl with her big blue
Eyes and fat ass she couldn’t see how he
Could have ever written such a letter and said
Such things and as she had the love letter
Before her written in his usual
Scribble with those childlike kisses at the
Bottom like black birds in flight there was no
Doubting the fact unless he didn’t post
It unless he just wrote it as some kind
Of therapy but that seemed unlikely
And so laying the letter out flat on
The table and pressing her palm across
It she left it there for him to see when
He got home from the office and as she
Stood there looking at the pressed out letter
She imagined him and the Cummings girl
In some backroom at the office and she
Could picture the kisses and embraces
And his hands wandering up her plump thighs
And outside the window where she stood there
Was birdsong and blue skies and a big bright
Summer sun and she standing there her tears
Dampening the page unloved and undone.
