oh, now I hear you

Post by saw » February 10th, 2011, 10:16 am

I remember that day
like it was my birthday
the day your Karmann Ghia
ran over my pet dogma

flattened it out
like a cancerous crepe
and we wolfed it down
like a stained Eucharist

laughing at our mulish ears
our potent Pinocchio noses
doubling at the waist
tears of latent definitions

streaming down our warrior cheeks
laughing, crying, laughing, screaming
laughing ............slaying ourselves
bellyfire guffaws down so deep

in the guts of simple truths
laughing at time past, laughing
like hopped up hyenas
our infantile resistance

our defiance to move an inch
or two into the other lane
for a moment
allow the other to pass

so we bolted like frisky lovers do
out onto the front lawn
in the courtyard of the planets
twirling in concentric circles of discovery

fingers laced like antique boots
adjectives inept, verbs unnecessary
and we both saw it, a flashing
message appearing in a celestial

neon bible highlighted in purple
mist, illuminated in the charred
skyline by the drunken lights
of dead poets, humongous letters

TWO HUNDRED FIFTY FEET TALL

LISTEN FOOL !
If you do not change your direction
you may end up where you are heading

thanx dadio & nightwriter.....and to jackofnightmares, yes the neon bible was so amazing, particularly considering the John Kennedy Toole wrote it at 16...and his other book A Confederacy of Dunces remains one of my favorites, to the extent of having read it 4 times....it's so damned funny it always cheers me up.....and what a tragic story, the author as you probably know committed suicide before either book was published....his mother thankfully found them and persisted......thanx for your comments on the poem....

our defiance to move an inch
or two into the other lane
for a moment
allow the other to pass
I think that is the bit that tripped my baggage
bringing up reptile thoughts
as if ontogeny did recapitulate phylogeny
and my brain encapsulates a reptile consciousness

thank you again for the poem

the sooner you can get someone to feed you so all you have to do is write, the better- wow you are really good-
reason is over rated, as is logic and common sense-i much prefer the passions of a crazy old woman, cats and dogs and jungle foliage- tropic rain-and a defined sense of who brings the stars up at night and the sun up in the morning---
