When it occasionally rains like hell, the way it has the last few days, it's easy to believe you're in one of Dante's "malebolge" and that the billboards are flickering messages from the damned.

the NATO vs. EU power plays are palpable...europe wants the cake and eat it too...they want EU to have the power, including military power, but they don't want to lose the US bases...the US wants to keep the bases, but they don't want to be marginalized in a non-NATO europe
