tree poet

Post by revolutionrabbit » February 16th, 2011, 5:07 am

the tree walked into a cafe
and sat down and ordered a cup of sunlight
it had been out in the darkness near a church
standing on the corner looking rather branch
long arms reaching into the sky and poking
around, lately the city had been making tree
feel a bit silly, what with all the big skyscrapers
looking down on its little round body of foliage

so tree sipped his sunshine joe, and lets its leaves
hang out for awhile, with the locals and they did
not seem to notice that a tree had come in for a
cup of universes, tree took out a note pad and a
pen and began to write poetry, some Joyce Kilmer
imitation,I think I shall never see a tree as lovely
as a poem, tree takes another sip of the cosmos
and shakes its poet leaves, and laughs like an oak
at the joke, only he will get, but it doesn't matter

the oak knows !.......I remember as a child being thrilled with the idea that on saturday morning, I could watch trees and such come to life in my cartoon shows......animation changed my world forever......being an animator must have been the job of choice for those that liked to expand their consciousness....and get paid for it........cool stuff.....

i wrote this quick, it maybe should be, "only it will get"
because a tree isn't male or female, but tree rhymes
with he, also it could be called...poet tree, but, that
is so already been done...hehe...thanks for readin.

But not with these words and not in this way! You're animation's fresh, maybe not the first stop-motion tree, but a powerfully original tree to stop motion.

This is a lullaby I wrote for the kids at church for Holy Week a few years ago...it's based on Judges 9...but I don't know how to record, so make up a tune for yourself if you want. Trees are good.
The forest trees went out to see
who their anointed king might be
and who might sway above the trees.
They said unto the olive tree,
“You come and reign above us, please.”

But the olive answered them:

“Shall I withhold my oils that bring
both gods’ and mortals’ honoring,
and go to sway above the trees?”
Then said they to the fig fruit tree
“You come and reign above us, please.”

But the fig tree answered them:

“Shall I withhold my fruit that, free
in sweetness, flows deliciously,
and go to sway above the trees?”
Then said they to the grapevine, “See,
You come and reign above us, please.”

But the grapevine answered them:

“Shall I withhold my wines that be
for gods’ and mortals’ revelry,
and go to sway above the trees?”
Then said they to the thorn-briar tree,
“You come and reign above us, please.”

And the thorn-briar answered them:

“When by good faith you come to me,
you’ll crown me and your king I’ll be;
you’ll rest within my shade, you trees!
But when true faith is lacking, see
will fires burn false courtesies.”

Yes, the thorn-briar answered them.

the tree metaphor is universal
how is it that in the story of Eden
the tree is made to be such a mute
but the snake talks....oh heck....
everything is all out of some fracture
I would not even begin to take on religion
by using it from in its own language, yet
there it is....poetry the tree of poetry, is
that other voice, it becomes a force for
life within its own heavy bud of flowering
a mind like Bob Dylan was able to fuse different
directions together, including religious symbols
because of the folk roots he came through in
his journey, and the times changing, but we
as a human kind on this planet has to up root
all that symbolism and take to the metaphors
and create another way of language that is able
to not get stuck in the brier patch of past mistakes
and down right falsehoods, the question would be
what is the poet's roll in this now, what can the artist
say now that will rise out of the broken system, and find
the natural order again, or find it within and without, how
do we find a voice that dances in the hard rain and sings
the body electric, a kind of collective howl that comes from
the belly of lead and stands at the mighty crossroads, and
spits into the wind, there is no sin, there is only ignorance
and layers of deception, no original sin, but some vast karma
that has been rolling down the ages pike on its Hoffman bike
of mind and memory, or matter and memory, so I ended the
tree peom, saying..."It doesn't matter," but that was not the
end point, it was just a way to stop the poem from saying
more then it needed to, in that the poem cannot resolve
everything in so many words, and if it starts out pretending
that it knows what it is saying, then it becomes just another
anecdote by rote, what I am looking fore is those lost spaces.
the tree next to the church, the tall windows looking down
on the world, the leaves writing about fall and leafy language
scattering shadows and a cup of sunlight on the pad of paper,

I don't know what artists and poets can do
should do

thanks for the poem and the excellent stream
thanks for the midnight sunlight

And these are reasons why I love your poetry: you have this gift in words and in punctuation (I notice and appreciate the final comma). As for me, my language is the old religion and its hope to cling to living faith. So together we try, law and gospel, freedom and responsibility. ...and poet-tree.

enjoyed this rr, especially when the tree broke into verse. reminds me of a poem I wrote a few months back which I thought I posted in this forum but I was mistaken. here it is for your viewing pleasure...or not :)
fuck you trees

I hope that I shall never see
another poem ‘bout a tree.

A stump for liberal hearts to bleed
upon the roots of mankind’s greed.

To hide behind when called to serve.
To make the bat that whiffs the curve

ball thrown at all of us on earth,
to challenge our return to mirth.

Go worship forests if you must,
but know it's heaven's underbrush.

The fact is, trees must stay behind
when God drops by to tap your pine.
We should not mind if on our ear there fell. Some less of cunning, more of oracle...Thoreau

Revolution rabbit, I liked your "tree poet" poem. 8)
It has great whimsy and so does your second poem.
:D (I've written a few whimsical poems myself.)

Oh, mnaz, I didn't like emel scott's poem either...Seems a
bit mean-spirited.
