My step son wrote this today for his friends back home in wisconsin, Dave.

"Well, if you haven't already heard, the pioneer of "gonzo journalism" has passed by committing suicide with a gun shot to the head......he was 67 years old.

For those of you that are reading this, know this journalist changed my life in the likes of Hemmingway and Kurt Vonaguat Jr. His approach to covering a story put himself in the story and became part of the story. I even learned a great deal about American politics of the 70's during Thompson's covering of the presidential campaign trail and Watergate. Thompson even went as far to cover the election of '92.
He lived a full life, I do believe... and although we will never know the real reason to explain why he took he own life, his written works and letters have become models for modern American journalism."

There's a copy of his book, Th Great Shark Huntin a bookstore here for $295, signed frst edition.

Here's another one, in the St. Pete Times today, written by a professor, one of your astute colleagues, professor, from the University of Florida dept of journalism, you of course being the hobo professor types. In fact, I know there is a mythos about the usage of "professor" as a moniker among bums and vagabonds.
Ever hear of it? HST had so much respect among bums, they called him, "Doctor".

The following is a testimony to Hunter's reach, a testimony from a guy doing internships in sports management.

I can never really put my finger on it, but for some reason I always enjoy reading anything by Hunter S. Thompson. I was first introduced to Thompson when one of his most heralded works Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas was turned into a movie starring Johhny Depp, I also began reading his "Hey Rube" section on ESPN.com's Page 2 Section.

He is the original gonzo journalist and his wit and adventures are unmatched by any author I have ever read.

So far I have only had time to read, The Curse of Lono and The Rum Diary.

I just recently started The Great Shark Hunt, and after that I will read The Proud Highway.

Pretty interesting stuff from a guy who has never thrown away a letter in his entire life.

You'll have to scroll down. I got the link from searching for images of Hunter and folowed to this site.

redemption through work

jimboloco more and more of my posts are getting deleted, I don't mind much, LR I see his posts vanish too.

I still say it
what ever gets you through the night, when parents are watching their children like "thought police" But we are resillent, children are, those suidide notes that show up on the internet, I thank god this is a literary sight, where people know all about sublimation. I think of st Doc as one of those "confessional" writers like st. anne.

Hey Truckin' -

Can you tell me what you're referring to? We're not deleting any posts here. LR hasn't deleted any of his and none of yours were deleted by either of us.

We had a little server problem yesterday with the site running really slow for some reason... some people were getting double posts .. some had a hard time logging on... but I contacted the host and it seems to be resolved now.

What posts have disappeared? Where? Could this be a technical glitch of some kind? I'm baffled. I'm such a non-techie. :(

Well, that's ok if you were just joking. But why would you joke about posts disappearing?

And if you weren't joking and you're actually seeing posts disappear, I'd like to know where so I can try to figure out what's going on with the software, because we're not doing it.

If posts are really disappearing, then this has nothing to do with male menopause, unless one of the symptoms of male menopause is hallucination. ;)

Could you tell me if you were just kidding or if you're really seeing posts disappear?

doreen now I am starting to feel like abbot and costello, I think LR had a really nice post about the image of a burning viking ship, I am probably wrong but I liked it so much I quoted it but now the quote is still ther but his post is gone. I have no problems with anything deleted, we are all adults here. and it is your garden, also a stupid post by me about whiskey and beer and thoughts of suicide have helped many a man make it thru a bad night or a hard night something like that

Thanks for filling me in.

Nope. I didn't delete either of those posts. Neither did LR.

He's over there on the other computer and reading me the post he wrote which you're referring to about the ship on the "Holy Crap! Hunter Thompson" thread.

It's there.

He refers to putting his body on a viking ship, to which I replied, "If you commit suicide, I'll kill you." :D

So, perhaps this *is* male menopause, afterall, and there is a symptom called hallucination. *smile*

The only other answer I have is maybe you have memory problems in your browser application or your computer which causes not all the posts to load when you refresh the page. That's a lame answer because I'm such a non-techie and I really have no clue how that works, but rest assured, the post your referring to of LR's is right there and we have not ever removed any of your posts. Ever.

NYPost online article:

http://www.nypost.com/news/nationalnews/41022.htm

Suicide as bad timing. Isn't every suicide bad timing?

Judging Hunter: Not too happy with all those comments about "cop out" "took the easy way out" etc. (read in various press articles online as well as studioeight, but where?)

Easy way?

Hmm, if shooting yourself in the head is the easy way, what's the hard way?

WRONG
I found it the post about the dead kennedys on another board
http://www.studioeight.tv/phpbb/viewtop ... c&start=30there ain't no  big enough for this blunder,

NOw I am going to look for LR's post about the the burning viking ship, I thought that one disappeared too, christ what can I say.

Ok Doreen if this will help,
this string we are on right now there are two posts by dave the D they are back to back, well between them was a post by me. dave posted I replied and he replied, that comment about the dead kennedy's was a reply to me I think, then I posted back to him saying thanks for telling me who the lyrics were by. Both of my posts are missing. It is no great loss but they are gone.

I hope this info was useful,

Still - I have no clue what happened. I didn't see the posts you're referring to. Neither LR or I have deleted any posts.

Thanks for referring me to a specific spot but I'm still at a loss.

Members here can delete their own posts. Is it possible that you wanted to edit your post and accidentally pushed the X button next to the edit button instead of the edit button?

The only other thing I can think of is that maybe you need to change your password for your own protection. Is it possible that someone might have your password? If someone has your password, they have the ability to sign in as you and delete your posts.

*shrug*... I really don't know.

All I can tell you is that neither of us have deleted any of your posts.

Thanks, though, for trying to help me sort this out. I think I'll go to the software help forum and post a topic about people claiming their posts are disappearing and maybe one of the developers over there will have an answer as to what could be going wrong with the software.

Until then, you can change your password in your profile, if you want. And also, if you go to edit, be careful that you hit the edit button, not the X right next to it. (though I don't know whether this could have happened or not... it's happened to others...)

One day, one of our moderators inadvertantly deleted a 2 page thread. Another day, one of my posts was inadvertantly edited by a moderator and half of it disappeared.

Doreen nothing has been deleted I found LR post too, totaly my confusion.

Much ado about nothing

maybe moldyb is confused too

please accept my apology.

But once someone posts after you, then it is too late to delete.
Thus all those:
... posts of mine. I could'n delete them so I erased the text with the dots.

This is a great place doreen, I think I need to take a break, got so many strings going round in my head. Going to sort them out for a while. Work on my spelling.

talk at you later,
