vegetable beef soup & food stamps

youth is a boot ya step in
it's vegetable beef soup in the library
it's food stamps comin' through the door
it's a bitch of a witch on the end of your stick
nothin' more than a pirate movie
sshhh !

those that want to hold on to that pirate movie
til' way past the prime
got it hanging off of them in tatters
in shreds like an old snakeskin

they may say different
but the earth never was their friend
they fear it & they hate it
and they can't say it often enough
when they say "it ain't so"

and they gonna end up there
but they keep sayin' no and no

and they shout it out and they dance all about
and they dress in bright colors
and they say they gonna get enlightened
they gonna open a third eye
they gonna expand their spirit
and they gonna be one with everything except
that hole in the ground and the worms that live in it

all i know is such as these
sure gonna die uncomfortable

and I look out over the land
i see many houses
each house has a kitchen
each kitchen has a table
each table holds a bowl
each bowl holds vegetable beef soup
next to the bowl is a spoon
and under the spoon is an open door
with the shadow of food stamps
standin' in it there
