mother's day

Post by joel » May 8th, 2011, 1:07 pm

I don’t remember life within your womb
or when you bled to free my spirit’s breath
or fed me from yourself or paused to groom
my infant helplessness or washed the death
of brokenness away from me. I don’t recall
the way you taught me how to walk— the words
you used to teach me how to speak— the call
you voiced to bless me with my name— the birds
to which you pointed, saying I would fly
as gracefully as they and you would love
and lift me always like the wind. But I
have never doubted these are true. And of
your heart, I’ve never known a question: you
have loved me faithfully— and I thank you.
