green and mossy, dark yet beautiful
I see your craggy rock face
washed by the kinetic waters
of the ocean

crashing on the verticals
higher, higher,
reaching your fullest potential
splashing me with your sprays

come reach me
come touch me
lick my toes as they grip the edge
of your cracked and eroded face

I wish for serenity and solace
envelop me in your blue swirls
make me forget my pain
make me remember my joy

but you don't want me
you have created a barrier between us
you do not come to me from your depths
you do not bathe my ankles

am I that far out of reach?
or is it that I am not what you desire
another body to float, support and carry
on your white water tops and currents

or are you telling me
that your beauty is not to be tarnished
by my selfish yearning
to exit this world?

turn your back on me then
I will walk away
maybe you have forced me
to find a more agreeable solution

this time, I will take your advice
I will listen
and I will open my eyes, lift my head
and see you reflected in that which is above me
