My Obituary

My Obituary

Sue Littleton - Obituary - Lihue, HI - Tributes.com -Death record and obituary for Sue Littleton from Lihue, Hawaii - Sue was born on June 26, 1925, and passed away on Saturday, February 5, 2011.

In an ecstasy of ego
I Googled my name.
This time I forgot (yeah, “this time,” been there,
do that, so shoot me)!
At any rate, I forgot to write
“Sue Littleton, Poet.”
Imagine my shock when I found my obituary!

Once I realized the facts were a little skewed,
I pondered the romance of it! Hawaii,
land of seductive electric guitars,
palm trees, hula hips in grass skirts,
looming volcanoes, blue waters.
Mind you, I have never been to Hawaii,
and suddenly I am dead and buried there.
Lihiue. Hawaii,
on a Saturday in February, this very year!
“Please sign Sue´s Memory Book.”

I considered going to the British Cemetery here
to check if my plot with the cheery cheeky tombstone
was still in place, waiting for me,
then decided against it.
What if... what if ... there was nothing there?

I thought it would be offensive
to write in my own Memory Book,
but you are welcome to do so!
... just in case.

beautiful poem & welcome again sue!!! :D Some years ago I realized there was one person in my own city with my same name & surname when I was registering to vote and the ones in charge told me: "hey!, but you have already voted today... no, wait! different identity number... sorry". Odd, really...! Later, I had to bring location data in order to make a difference if I wanted to ask for a turn in some medical centers and also some people told me (in a misunderstanding serie of facts) that she´s blonde and she has a futbolist brother, so definitely she´s not me...! . Enjoyed it!

My dear Arcadia,

As soon as I saw your post I immediately wrote you a long answer and tried to submit it. Needless to say, I submitted my reply to nowhere. Poof, it was gone! I was so discouraged I waited until today to respond again. And this time I am writing a draft in Microsoft Word, so I can recuperate it if the Internet or Studio Eight decide to make me disappear.

Finding an obituary on the Internet under your name is a decidedly novel experience. My first reaction was to correct the matter, since after some consideration I realized I was still alive. Then I checked a few details – born 1925, I was born in 1932 – different birthdays. There was also a photo of the decedent (at another place) under my name --well, OUR name) and she was a most overweight lady with a very sweet smile. And suddenly I saw the funny side of all this.

At least you have been able to establish your identity as to voting rights! And knowing Argentina, you probably have to establish them every year to vote, unless you decide to let your tocaya vote for you, a tempting solution just now.

I have been extremely occupied with my book of haiku. I have written and re-written, added and changed. The book has been at the printer’s for over a month, but it is still in the process. I have learned new and wonderful aspects of haiku, I have written this last haiku I wish could have been included – but then the total in the book would not have been capacua! (111).

I had been plagiarizing my book Imagenes to write haiku. This last one was inspired (to the point of plagiarism) by a murder mystery by Mabel Seely, printed in 1938, and in my pocket-book form in 1964, 47 years ago. The author referred to a “provocative moon” and “half-told secrets” and I thought, those lines are too poetic to waste on a murder mystery written 73 years ago. The last line, thank goodness, is all mine! However, had I included this one in the Sueku I would feel guilty forever. I doubt seriously if Mable’s heirs would have come after me, but my conscience would have been very active.

Let me have your e-mail so I can invited you to the presentation of Sueku – Rosario is not that far away! Be sure and put “Arcadia” or “Sueku” in the subject line. I am so traumatized by having my e-mail hacked I won’t open an e-mail I can’t recognize!

Un abrazo,
Sue♥♥♥

P. S. I wish I could figure out how to prevent all my correspondence and poetry from centering when I send it! Ufa!
