Eric's Found Poem
My son Eric just wrote a poem for his 8th grade English class. The basis of the poem is to create a poem from a single article of writing, such as from a newspaper article or book. You can reuse and delete words at will, but all words must be from the article, and you can’t add any words of your own.
This is his poem … created from Page 8 of “The Instant Juggling Book” by Bob Woodburn. Being his mom, I’m biased … but I thought it was pretty creative, and wanted to share it with you all; with his permission of course. We hope you enjoy, and yes … he will be reading the responses.
Found Poem
I got it! I got it! I continued and
They loved it and created JUGGLE.EZ!
Sure fire, maybe. Aha! Caught ya! Maybe.
I responded decisively: “I was hooked and wanted more!”
Very fast adventuresome Colorado bound
Disappearing identified flying objects.
I wanted in 10, 9, 8, 62, 34 minutes.
At team-building seminars in the
United states? Maybe. Canada? Great!
My daughters, fast growing group with mom.
I got a great response and joined
The very next week at this great school.
I jumped in and saw 62 feet.
“You’ve cut the potatoes in half”
The executives says totally amazed
So I picked up the potatoes in the
Air and bathtub. I was doing great.
We laughed and played like kids and
Relaxed a few minutes. Why not? I thought.
Then I created an awful mess
– They loved it. Then there went a piece of cake.
I got it! I got it! I continued and
They love it and created JUGGLE.EZ!
Sure fire? Maybe. Aha! Caught ya! Maybe.
I responded decisively “I was hooked and wanted more!”

Eric was excited to come back tonight and see that his poem “Got Hits!” “I got 22 hits ~ yeeeah!”
He’s happy; and now he’s tasted a small bit of fame …. (umm)
Look out S8 … ~lol~
Thank you Mousey1 .. he loved the Stupendo!!!!!! (it's gone to his head). Thank you Arcadia, and yes ... reading middle school papers/writing - they way they think, and articulate: I love it! So fresh. And Judih ... energetic, nuts () and giggles! YepYepYep! (you got it! ~heeee~)
Btw… Eric's English teacher, Mr. Woolridge is “way cool” (my term, not Eric's); guess what example of “found poems” he included for them to study/learn from: Make the Pie Higher created from George W. Bush quotations; credited to Richard Thompson (Washington Post) It’s hilarious! And yes, Bush really did say all these things!

...I am a pitbull on the pantleg of opportunity.
MAKE THE PIE HIGHER
I think we all agree, the past is over.
This is still a dangerous world.
It's a world of madmen and uncertainty
and potential mental losses.
Rarely is the question asked
Is our children learning?
Will the highways of the Internet become more few?
How many hands have I shaked?
They misunderestimate me.
I am a pitbull on the pantleg of opportunity.
I know that the human being and the fish can coexist.
Families is where our nation finds hope, where our wings take dream.
Put food on your family!
Knock down the tollbooth!
Vulcanize society!
Make the pie higher! Make the pie higher!
Yes, Bushy ~ you are!
ha!

Eric says “Thank you!” (with a big smile) for the positive feedback ST, jota and all! And he says: "Yes! I'll share a couple more!" And I say thank you as well, your encouragement is helpful.
But first I want to apologize for this late reply .... it's been soooo busy this week for each of us. I'm sorry it's taken us this long to get back.
Now here's another two of his favorites (and mine!) of the poems Eric wrote for his English class assignments this last week.... "Backward Perceptions" and "All Love's A Dream"
Backward Perceptions
“What in the world is that?!”
“That’s a painting of a cat.”
“What!? How can that be?
It looks like a sea serpent to me!”
“I think it’s smiling!”
“Can it talk?” “Can it see?”
“It appears to be meat loaf – no a sandwich.
A meat loaf sandwich? No! A person with an itch.”
“What are you people smoking!? It’s obviously a light switch!”
“Oh! I see, that’s the lamp up there!”
“No man! That thing has hair!”
Everybody’s talking all at once
Except for the class dunce.
There he sits quiet and still,
Studying other art at his own free will.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
All love is a dream
There they are, alone together,
The dumbest gal alive and the genius little brother.
Made of stone they are, gazing into each others eyes,
If they kiss soon, I wouldn’t be surprised.
What? It didn’t happen then?
Smack! Oh, it happened now, oops… and again.
Sitting right there for all the world to see,
Oh why, oh why! Couldn’t that be me?
Oh my god! What was that? My Alarm? T’was a dream.
Then I took a shower, and the room was full of steam.
That was an odd dream indeed,
But love is a thing that I don’t need.
There they are, always in my mind,
I don’t even care about the petition I just signed.
So absentminded, they couldn’t even see,
How much happier that they would be with me.
Has Eric got the bug?
Nice poems, I like "Backward Perceptions" the best.
I think he's having fun with his writing. Cool.
Oh and thanks for sharing the Bushisms.....hilarious......It validates me when I see I am not the only one who spends a great deal of time with my foot lodged semipermanently in my mouth. I'm in high company....not bright but high.
Maybe that's our probablems!
Thanks again.
