You fear the water,
Dampness between toes,
Waves caressing thighs,
Salt water in eyes.
A death by drowning,
Some murky river,
A stagnant dark pond,
Crowds your black dog mood.
Mother slit her wrists,
Sat in her blood bath
Until death embraced her.
Pearl smooth her eyelids,
Her dead lips kissing
The red water’s skin.
You found her that day,
Coming home from school,
Dead in the water.
You follow her steps
With your own black mood,
Deciding water
As your own dark end.
You have no daughter
To discover you
And haunt years after,
Just you and dead fish
And Mother’s laughter.
FEAR OF WATER.
FEAR OF WATER.
