The steps were taken
to the edge of the roof.
The horizon of city and sky
seemed somehow new,
not like the old at all
on this last gaze.
She had thought on this
many times, this jump,
this leap into death's arms.
But before
there always seemed
a way back,
a way to make excuses
not to jump or leap.
But here she was now,
all excuses put behind her,
all other ways out
blanked from her mind.
She looked down
and swayed.
Below traffic moved
and people walked
and in a nearby school
small children played.
Steps Were Taken.
Steps Were Taken.

interesting poem
the sound of children playing

the awful pull of gravity
