Leap!
.
“Leap, and the net will appear.” - Julia Margaret Cameron
_____________
She leapt,
was swept up by the tide,
didn't much enjoy the ride,
tried to swim from the undertow,
though no success.
Was best she hadn't dived.
If she stayed on the shore,
she'd be alive today
for sure.
Now she's all chopped up,
tuna canned, man, spilled out
on a plate to sate the hungry
mates, mixed with celery
and onion and mayo.
"Dayo. Dayo. Moonlight comes
and we wanna go home."
She leapt, got wet,
all washed up, combed
by the sea, captured
by a net she thought
wasn't even there.
And nobody fricking
cared.

Re: Leap of Faith
I had about a dozen images, amoung them a Chicken of the Sea can, valkyries flying about minding their own business, a damsel in distress, a siren with bags on a jetlag and a sea hag choking with seaweed, an albino manatee, and Doreen riding on a pendulum swing. I even heard a mermaid cry, I think.
Why lay waste the imagery?

Re: Leap of Faith
Edit it for me. It's yours. I give it to you. Add whatever imagery you want. I'm done with it.
Wrote it spontaneously on a thread on FB following the quote I posted above the poem, in response to the responses to the quote.
It's all yours. You can have it.
Thanks for reading.

Re: Leap of Faith
PS... I love the imagery you came up with. If you do revise it and add that imagery, please post it here. I'd love to read it! I'm glad those images came in your mind reading my tunafish leap of faith. I'm just a tuna salad now. It takes all the energy I have to put it out on the plate and serve it up once. Now I'm tired and I'm going back to the fridge to keep myself fresh.

Doreen, I don't know why you dismiss your poem so----it is interesting----it communicates. I think it is a good poem.
No, it isn't a naturalistic poem but an expressionistic one.

Re: Leap of Faith
Dan, I didn't dismiss it. It is what it is. She leapt, she got captured, she died, she became tunafish salad. *shrug*.... what a dummy. heh... I sorta liked it.
Anna came up with more imagery to add.. she mentioned her imagery then said, "Why lay waste the imagery?" and I offered her my poem to expand upon. That's all.
Thanks for reading and your kind comments!
I wish Baltimore wasn't so far away or I'd come to readings. I missed 3 of them now in Frederick, Maryland.... Wireman's organizing a monthly reading there at Cafe Nola. I've been there several times (4? something like that) but can't seem to make it every month. No gas. No money. Sigh.
If I started something here in Virginia, would you come sometimes?
Just rambling. Pissed off at myself for missing Tuesday's show. I need LIVE poetry!

Re: Leap of Faith
Occasionally---but I have been extremely busy----and I've been feeling like the NFL disabled list----it is true but I'm not self-pitying---complaining but no more mention of it.
I wish things could break right for you financially----these are hard times----I get so angry at all that uncompassionate tea party crap. They are gong to take the country down. It is so easy to get out of the personal though & go political when the personal is what worries. I wish I could wave a magic wand for you & help you out. I'm with you in spirit.
And yes, poetry does help---a lot.
Can you paint a little---don't put high prices on rthe paintings---get a shop to display your work?
