i am not authorized to write poetry
too omniscient
i must become likable
or be in a dramatic situation
like pole-vaulting over electrified fences
or talking to celebrated actresses
just trying to stay afloat
when you feel yourself sinking
as Cameron Diaz gives you the once over
and she is so over you
nanosecond
and so your poetry
which describes the variegated leaves
of some plant whose name you can't recall
and your laptop is in the trunk of your car
so no Wikipedia
to do Linnaeus
you are using the ballpoint and paper method
scratching words out as you go
like a detective through the room
you inhabit inside a compound
sentence
mindful what the critic said
create a sympathetic narrator
not a wise ass
cold as ice-nails-steel-lipgloss
yeah
like I use lip gloss
gloss?
that word gets to me
I start tossing out other words
loss
yeah, I'm at a loss
floss
not dental or mental
Ms Diaz's bkini as floss for her.....
okay
rude, crude
too much rhyme, too cute
which means ugly
just a screwed up
over the hill dude
kinda of doing the Bukowski thing
losing the big poetry
with little words amounting
to not much
i'm in debt to Pound-Eliot-Stevens
and I can't pay a poem back
oh, amazing how
----no, it is not
amazing
just predictable words that flow
down the page like water
leave stains
wrinkles
the ink runs too
a poem
that is more abstract expressionist
than post-post-modern
i'm not authorized to say
i write poetry
because i don't
write anything interesting
for those who dole out prizes
laurels, accolades
and what is writing anyway
but trying to get noticed
by someone
especially Cameron Diaz
the reason for writing
is to get laid really
or metaphorically
if you are just waiting for
the rest
"laid to rest"
i am authorized to be witty
jerks can be witty
and I'll jerk off a joke
or two
or three
but the poem
is pathetic
everything is too simple
too rational
can't i take brake shoes
put them in this poem
and make them a metaphor
that wows an audience of Cameron Diazes
but the irrational part of my mind
is grinding on the rotor disk
you can hear the strain of this poem
i can't steer it anymore
it is coming to a stop
the cop will bust me
i have no poetic license

Driving Poetry Into A Ditch
The Irish Sea Is Always In Turmoil, Even When Calm.
Re: Driving Poetry Into A Ditch
you, having no poetic license is so untrue.....this is vintage irish sea, the ramble of a passionate protector of words that's trying to rise from his perceived doldrums to set the world afire....and why not.....ego is certainly part of the equation, but it's not that simple...there are a myriad of forces that push us to write, and if you believe in the cyclical march of the seasons you know we can't create awe, all the time....so we muddle about, through the dark days of winter impatiently pensive......the question may be, would we still arrive at he same place, that good place where the mind is on fire with ideas, sooner or later, if we just skipped the dull stretches.....if we just recognized this is not my fertile season, so I'm going bowling.......keep 'em coming danno........
If you do not change your direction
you may end up where you are heading
you may end up where you are heading
Re: Driving Poetry Into A Ditch
Keep this up and you are going to be one of my favourite poets. Fine work indeed.
Re: Driving Poetry Into A Ditch
I catch your drift.
What does it feel like to receive a citation for penning and sharing verse while not having a poetic license ?
Poetry is not a road bound for anywhere with traffic lights and speed limit signs. It's like an open sea, forest or field where one can go off in any direction.
Poetry is not set at the TABLE either like a water glass, a salad fork or soup spoon.

Poetic license ? Everyone's born with one of these. It's automatic and beyond our control. A package deal. Out of kindness, I suppose, though it has driven some right out of their ever-lovin' pond. Which gave birth to the rise of the amphibians, thank God, because where would any of us be without them ?

Doll, you may have found a place of rest but I'm still on the trail.

some like modern art
some impressionist
i love the brushes and color of paint
that does not make me anything but a wanna be renior
but i guess poetry is the place where the broken meet the healing
personal to us
ignorant of the ones that walked before us-told us so etc
poetry loves me
it is the best lover i have ever had- most reliable- and never gets pissed at me= now i would like to do more for poetry
but i am still in pre-school-aloha

reason is over rated, as is logic and common sense-i much prefer the passions of a crazy old woman, cats and dogs and jungle foliage- tropic rain-and a defined sense of who brings the stars up at night and the sun up in the morning---
