Re: No Memory
Time in Buddhism
In this final section, we will take a brief look at a Buddhist analysis of time and compare it to Husserl’s phenomenological analysis. Nagarjuna, the founder of the Madhyamika school of Mahayana Buddhism, provided a classic analysis of time in his Mulamadhyamikakarika. In these philosophical aphorisms, Nagarjuna examines time and finds that it cannot be conceived of as an entity existing independently of temporal phenomena. Nagarjuna begins with the conventional division of time into past, present, and future. He then argues than not one of these can be said to inherently exist.
The present and the future either depend on the past or they do not. If they do, then they must in some sense already be present implicitly in the past, in which case their distinction with the past does not make sense. If they do not, then there can be no relation or connection to the past, and it makes no sense to talk of them as linked phases of time. Instead, time must itself be regarded as a set of relations among temporal phenomena, and nothing in itself. This is suggestive of Husserl’s comment,
The now is precisely only an ideal limit, something abstract, which can be nothing by itself. (Husserl, PITC, p. 196).

Re: No Memory of the present
Husserl’s analysis of inner time consciousness takes music as an example of a temporal experience. A piece of music being played is a kind of temporal object, and object of experience that has temporal extension. The natural attitude toward the experience of a musical piece is that it consists of a sequence of notes.

Re: No Memory of the present
[the retention of the note] is continually modified and sinks back into emptiness...as points of a stationary object in space recede when I “go away from the object.” The object retains its place; even so does the sound retain its time. Its temporal point is unmoved, but the sound vanishes into the remoteness of consciousness; the distance from the generative now becomes ever greater.

Re: No Memory of the present
i finally figured out that i'm not merely an entity, but a human being aware of an expanded, open, encompassing consciousness that embraces time and space, with the shadow of the turning, the heavenly host.

Re: No Memory of the present
You have figured out more than I have jimboloco. I wish you well my friend.
Five AM i hear and feel the blood gushing and throbbing in my eardrums... No pot or cigarettes for months. Stone cold sober as Clarence Thomas or Anthony Scalia.
One thing I think I have figured out is that I have blown it.
Failed to fulfill my prime directive
“Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth,”
But thank God others have managed to fill the earth for me.
I got a job, two jobs, selling clothes on line and driving a double decker bus here in san antonio.
Life is good.
My belly is full, but not too full
I got friends and family to see me through the rough and shaky parts
I got warm clothes and comfortable shoes to wear
And I hardly feel like writing any more
thank G d.

Re: No Memory of the present
I didn't fully grasp exactly the message, but I do think a lot about these things..meaning time-lines, time-travel and etc.
Prolly I lean towards all is present. In order for past to exist then it must be brought to present, same for future. As if present is a magic pen to color the invisible words and then be able to see them. Past and Future must go under that pen and pen is present. Maybees that means there is only present, I don't know.
It mismashes with my other thoughts about memory is as real whether it's from reality based or made of things such as dream-life, fictitious story running around in first thoughts, the physical means how much... or is it all the same mosh pit.
My problem being that if not present, then I worry I might not bring it back to present, in order for it to even exist any longer or to begin to exist in the first place. A thing can only exist if I hold it. That bothers me a lot. I don't go back to get much unless I feel it rattles me or it gets here by way of a dotted line and I don't bring the future here very often.
It was nice to see you today.

"Does the sea, remember the walker upon it?". — JoAhn The Baptist
Beats me...”When the king's messenger asked John the Baptist who he was, he answered: "Non sum" — non sum a long time ago on studio eight.
I got all these words sloshing aroun in my head and everyonce awhile a couple of um floats up to the surface like a toilet seat floating in the pacific ocean with a turtle bobbing its head up into the hole.
"Memory of the present" one of those word things, some vaque recollection of from a distant corner of my mind, like a Husserlian koan
Have you ever seen a British TV series called Red Dwarf,
One of my favorite episodes was one called Ouroboros, reminds me of Jimboloco and how Jim stumbled on to some people at a Quacker meeting who knew his father....................................................................................................
I have heard you can't judge a book by its cover.

Yeah and you can't book a judge under cover either.

I can't budge a judge
"the sacred is whatever you’re not allowed to laugh at in a given culture"
Yes, " we are are all bozos on the bus", Not really that kind of a red now that I look at it closely. more like a firetruck red. I will post another picture.
I got another job selling clothes online to the 'hoi polloi'
i used to have a friend in morro bay california who worked as a waitress at Sambo's™, she called herself a social whore. I know how she felt now. She was also a song writer, wrote great lyrics
"They say I was a rebel till I reached the age of five
it was then that I got caught up in the struggle to survive
it came to me one rainy august morning like a flash
we might all wake up tomorrow in a pile of smoke and ash
...so if you are broke go down and get a rebate..."
that's all I remember from it. but I remember well how loverly she looked
standing there in her kitchen wearing mukluks and a Teddy Nightie
that last time I saw her
sweet dreams are made of that

Re: No Memory of the present
You know I been a fortunate son steve.
I never got to go and do my patriotic duty
cause I was crazy then back in the early sixties when I was crazy and could not fall asleep unless I imagined a rifle tucked up under my chin with my finger resting on the trigger. Why a rifle, because my college roommate had one in his closet.
So I got no PTSD i got to deal with, I used to feel guilty about being a four F conscientious objector that is till I met a combat veteran from the war in the Pacific who said I should not feel guilty about it, he said I should be grateful, that I should feel luck to been rejected as mentally unfit for military service.
I read a critique of a book called Achilles In Vietnam, combat trauma and the undoing of character, the author was a retired army surgeon who served in Vietnam. I posted the critique down on the flames board, because I thought it was interesting., well not that interesting, I think the author of Achilles in Vietnam did not miss the point as the article said.
I posted it because I was judging it by its title which was "Blood, sperm and tears"
