find the old road, the capsule before
gouged mountains and straightened curves
space pads still linger among the tumbleweed
past divided highways and ten story exxon signs
the old 66 gleam, where big cars with jet fins zoom
past rockets and flying saucers, polygons and tiki gods
atomic rings and boomerangs, to jet age coffeehouses
sheet glass and upswept roofs as if hung from the sky
and it seemed they might fly, all in motion
on the road to tomorrowland
the neon tumbleweed sun
of possibility

Re: "66"
cool images, I love that architecture and the vastness of that time literally and figuratively...the big cars, the open road that disappeared into the horizon, the notion that there were no limits ........
If you do not change your direction
you may end up where you are heading
you may end up where you are heading
Re: "66"
cool, steve. yeah, i really get into that heady "space-age" style too... almost like, coming out of the big war, with science figuring out subatomics and pushing for journeys to space, the possibilities were limitless for human-kind. and this bold, kinetic optimistic style was able to sustain itself for awhile, even through mccarthy's witch hunt and other nastiness of the era, but pretty much died with vietnam and the unrest of the late '60s...
