the reason that runs thru the mind
like a flame flickering in a field
where bombs and death hold hands
with bullets and ghosts
dreams and roasted flesh
expecting shock to rise in extreme
function and fear
running from pain
the insanity of believing
this could change one small thing
other than control
of a fence line
until the next fool runs for cover
for office, for the spot
where power is a delusion
the reactions of the body
ready for action
in a hot second
never leave

accross the sea
the people sit in a VA unit
the others mill around with shopping carts
or build strange things to live in the woods
women have children with the soldiers
they never really get the good
from the shattered and torn
they are forced to mourn

this anger that seemed so real
cast itself from anything
that safety could feel
understood it never could
bring anything good to free
the hope crashed wave after wave
while war became what became
enslaved
