knowing when to stop

Post by saw » November 24th, 2011, 10:33 am

I wrote a thousand poems
in one night, a short story
really if you cobbled them all
together, but when apart
a thousand shards of mirrored glass

each one a sliver of brilliance
each one a slab of mundane
from now on when I hit 999
I will go to bed,
so I can dream the last piece
If you do not change your direction
you may end up where you are heading

One good thing about trucking, you always know when to stop.

Ah-thousand shards of consciousness
reflecting in each shard of broken mirror poetry

out on the edge of the desert west of new jersey
on the brink of consciousness and sleep
what to call it ???
highway hypnosis??
sleep driving?
a trucker's nightmare
just right there between the two worlds
of sleep and mundane concrete higway
that feeling of exhiliration that is what I think Kerouac meant by beat, even if he called it something else
yeah sometimes I like to dream while I am typing
ride the eighteen wheels on my chair
safe from the harsh realities of mass and momentum
and take it too far late into the still hours of the mornings

need I say how much I enjoyed your poem,?
thanks for writing

It's not about knowing when to stop
that's brilliant,
it's when to take the pen in hand
and start dreaming
the variations of the theme,
when to pause for the cause
and how to create the meme,
I wave to you
and you string cans together
so we can talk
the walk
on images we leave behind.
