I'm playin The Cat

Post by revolutionrabbit » January 5th, 2012, 6:26 am

I'm playin The Cat
by the incredible Jimmy Smith
I not one of those kids that
smashed frogs by little backyard
pondering ponds
I would read Bukowski
in a newspaper hat
and put my hand in my pea coat
and look like beat Napoleon
with some symbolic language
with a crazy need to conjure
unholy nations and mad poets
to sing guillotine songs to the
nut houses along the insane river
I'm listenin to Jimmy
play that hot organ with fingers of fire
the cat be free at last, I conspire
to let them critters be free
of the human mistake, human misery
even if that cat cannot chant Kant
imagine categories of glory
hear Mozart in the milky way rain
no black cat chained to music box
about to explode in a Moog of meow
with only Sunday school songs
wired inside like a Jesus-in-the box
no monkey with his human dog
Burroughs reciting at the beginning
of Nova Express..."Last Words"
grinding some noise machine
mixed with revolving round lights
on the corner of nowhere
and divine, the reluctant design
I'm listenin to The Cat by Jimmy
Smith, that kitty with those
red lit eyes
coming through all that saint smoke
and hoodoo mist
a little pissed
and purr-ple passion
down by the insane river
free of that human box of infinite squares
that human mistake, human misery
the human condition, we know all to well
Jesus Napoleon loves me, this I know
meow meow meow meeeeeeeeeeeeow

Thanks, Rabbit.
Really good to me.
`Do you know, I was so angry, Kitty,' Alice went on...`when I saw all the mischief you had been doing, I was very nearly opening the window, and putting you out into the snow! And you'd have deserved it, you
little mischievous darling!

What ya been toking? Some good stuff, here! Maybe you're channeling Ginsburg.

I don't know about channeling Ginsberg,
as much as I feel he was a great influence
I well admit that the surrealists had a big
influence, and in so far as that influence
is still active, I tend to bounce around
a lot, if one was to pay attention to my
quirky style, sometimes the influence
of my original mentor, whose poetry
was very much part of my world for
many years, still comes through in a
poem in some of the more quirkiness
effect, as it were.Oh, and he was a crazy
surfer that smoked a lot of poet, I mean pot!
