everywhere
the bursts of grain in the wood paneling
the confetti on the surfaces of linoleum tile
the stitches of shirts, pants
the weaving of rugs
and so conscious the curvilinear bouquets
but patterns in the wind of rivers through plains, deserts,
in the geometry of furniture
the claw and ball
the finial
and patterns in poems
abab
and the pentameter
or the patterns in oils
the triangle of Mary, Christ, John the Baptist
the recurring refrains of a popular song
or the motifs in Wagner
the patterns of thought
the myths
God, Man, Beast
the crescents
the fleur de lis
the Irish headstones
the barbed wire fences
enclosing, preventing trespass
the hearts rhythm
the zigzag of tears
the calendar year
patterns in the sculptured gardens
in the very bloom of the flowers themselves
the pistils, the stamens, the anvils
the patterns of speech
noun verb object
the rise and fall of a voice
in an auditorium
in an adjacent room
in the heart
