the hellbound gravy train
derailed not in the middle
of nowhere, no
in the middle of everywhere
years gone by like a quickie
on the front seat of a rusting sedan

so here I am craving a cigarette
lost in a dimension from a past trip
when love and life made that
seductive-promise speech like a guest
speaker at a bogus graduation
who knew it was all bullshit

but was paid well enough to lie
to the student body, to their hearts
as well, 'cause all those veteran johns
agreed, it's just the right thing to do
to people so young, make that market
seem sexy like a tight pair of jeans

a pin-up girl dream come alive
where fortunes are guaranfuckinteed
for all those sheep skinners
that graze on the capital grounds,
can you see them, the herd is right
out front on the lawn filling their bellies

with dead animal patties washed down
with a mac flurry of creamy chemicals,
see them now, the ovine clones leaping
one by one over a dreamy stile
in a thought bubble hanging above your bed,
sorry to tell you this.....it isn't a dream.
