Dachau, Kigali, Gaza
show me your tired and your hungry,
your wretched, your huddled,
your tent cities in Los Angeles,
Cleveland, Detroit and Miami.

Who have you turned
away like garbage heaped on barges
across these islands between us?

Who do you hold close to your flame and your breast?

Tell the unwritten pages of history who it should keep.
Tell me, oh longing of a future passed---
which one of us will return
to the pilot scene and not weep the tears
of the already dead?
