smell

he did me a favor
by chasing the darkness away
but in so doing
somehow he went astray
on fire
he was
all like a blaze
in the sky
burning too fast
a comet falling into ashes

oh you couldnt help but love him
he had that yes baby so smooth
but that was acting
all movies fine the end
wanting each frame to brush my face
like an antique
in the afternoon sunlight

i locked that
chasity belt harder than i ever had to before
warriored up
and walked out the door
before that
i thought so many things
wings flapped in the breeze
below the mountains where he once felt alive
made the mistake
of trying to describe
the landscape to someone that can only do one thing at a time'

i wondered just what had made him so uptight
when i burned that last thing
he sent
i could smell that stuff
in the heat
