reptile room

long ago in portland
there was a man
and a woman
trying to make a 'a go' of it
they were trying to be good partners
smoking in the reptile room
with the heat at 105
all warm and nice

somehow
the wolves were howling'
buffalo roaming
the crickets
were chirping early in the morning in the office
snakes staring at you
while having coffee
way too early

tonight
crickets in kauai
which will not be fed to lizards or snakes in captivity
are chirping outside
reminding me
that
like a bad example
of reptile behavior
needs its cage cleaned
perhaps i have become an actual lizard
laying in the sun
here in the valley

my kids talked my wife into buying them a Bearded Dragon which Always bothered me....I used to ask them, Do you think Goliath is really happy ?.....and they would reply, yea he's OK......but he wasn't OK......I should have broken him out of that prison, but instead I waited 'til he shriveled away.....I was the only one that seemed to sense his unhappiness, and I've always wondered why....a poignant poem, c-soul.........

we used to let lizzy cruise in the window-but --- i think they need to be free- if you saw how many lizrds are out on the rocks in the sun here-wow colorful critters- at the very least they have a tale to tell--aloha
