easter
i wanted to believe so many things when i was a child i thought like a child and at times like a total infidel
i had to listen one more time to the whole story of creation
thank God that i am alive- i had blamed Jesus for making my third husband a junkie
for so many things
today he just looked at me with those big brown eyes
and i was good with it
but i know that had i never done all the things i done
like a lil indian
i wouldve still been blaming jesus for everything
the fat preacher to boot-
i liked the one that held my third husband in the sea- and looked at me and said 'should we hold em down there a lil longer?"
come to find out it was not jesus fault-
at all
years later
while watching the guys that drink all day wait til the AA meeting is over so they can come drink in there again
the big white man from the mainland started telling people not to watch what was going on that was not in the meeting
i swear
if it isnt one thing it is another
so i just let it go
because big white men are not usually here long
especilly bossy ones
the meek shall inherit the island

reason is over rated, as is logic and common sense-i much prefer the passions of a crazy old woman, cats and dogs and jungle foliage- tropic rain-and a defined sense of who brings the stars up at night and the sun up in the morning---

Re: easter
nice work
I wonder how that is determined. Is it reckoned through the mother's blood line or the fathers or both?
on a personal note:
A spooky holiday for me Easter. but Passover is even worse. I mourn for the first born of Egypt

I find it gratifying that there are isands that only native Hawaiians can set foot on.because big white men are not usually here long
especilly bossy ones

Re: easter
I was looking at a map a few years ago and I noticed that there were a couple of islands reserved only for native Hawaiians
I did a quick google and I came up with two names, not sure if there are more than these two.
NIHAU
I did a quick google and I came up with two names, not sure if there are more than these two.
NIHAU
Niihau is also knows as “The Forbidden Island” because non-native Hawaiians are not allowed to go there. Today, there are approximately 250 native Hawaiian residents living on Niihau and their lifestyle has remained the same over all these years. There are no shops or restaurants on the island, no electricity, no paved roads, no cars and no hotels. So in other words life is very simple. People get around by bike and on foot.
KAHOOLAWE
Anticipating the island's return to Hawaiian control, the Hawaii State Legislature established the Kahoolawe Island Reserve in 1993. The Reserve consists of the island and its surrounding waters extending outward two miles into the ocean. By State Law, Kahoolawe and its waters can only be used for Native Hawaiian cultural, spiritual and subsistence purposes; fishing; environmental restoration; historic preservation; and education. Commercial uses are prohibited. The Kahoolawe Island Reserve Commission (KIRC) was also created to manage the Reserve.
Kahoolawe is presently undergoing clean-up and restoration. Hawaiians plan on planting the island with native foliage, including edible and herbal plants used in traditional native medicine. For this purpose various soil conservation programs are being implemented, and a catchment system is being created to capture rain water. Under a state law, Kahoolawe is to be eventually turned over to a native Hawaiian sovereign entity recognized by the state and federal governments.
The island will be an educational center for Native Hawaiian culture, where one may go and learn about being Hawaiian. It will provide a place for the Hawaiian and those who wish to be more Hawaiian to experience the intimate connection to the land, the sea, the kupuna, and the akua. Hawaiian arts and sciences such as traditional navigation will be taught to a new generation.
Thus Kahoolawe, as envisioned in the motto "Kukulu ke ea a Kanaloa," will be a cultural learning center where traditional cultural and spiritual customs, beliefs, and practices of the Hawaiian people can be freely practiced and flourish.

Re: easter
oui- you are correct- but the robinson family- wilcox and shhhans - are still involved- without the brains they have to make it so white people cannot go there- takes money- if i went to an island where there were no resturants, music, and shops well i gotta be honest-n say i have lived in very remote areas, where piles of $ cannot buy you anything, and i know that any island needs various items from the outside- however thankful that the hawaiian people are being aknowledged, the customs of life here are somewhat different than dominant society at this time-the aloha spirit is still prevelant in this islands little world- haole behavior is still frowned upon... and if you sit on a picnic table the local s i know will say' do not sit where i eat' which is really the best way to describe being told in no uncertain terms to 'mind your manners' it took me three years to adjust after portland made me think backwards like ' i could be somebody' or something, like some other idenity were available to me- that i could be something i never was- but now i have a white girls education, a sun dancer s spiritual ideas- and plenty of native american training that indicates to me, that i need to learn more= here, there and everywhere- aloha
