25 years of pagina12 newspaper, wow...! time passes!!!!!! It´s true (at least for me) that the newspaper was a shot of cool air at those times (Menem in the government & no internet). I still like reading some of the columnists (old and new) but sure it´s not the same (beginning with that I´m not the same...). But to listen to the president during the festejos! sounded heavy... I can understand somehow the newspaper´s founder and ex-president feelings shared on tv some days ago ... I still can´t understand how he manage working to Clarín!, though ... and yeah, of course, at some point more or less all can be part of the show ...

I used to believe in newspapers, I guess I still do, but maybe not as much. Interesting article in the washington post dot com about your president speaking at the UN in NYC. Falkland Islands named three times Malvinas once. Cheers for the Brits, silence for Argentina. She said the truth is being twisted.

I only read the Washington Post everyday because it has the bestest mostest comic strips of any news paper here. Then I read the editorial comics also. I hardly have patience for editorials anymore.

I would rather think about any other country but Israel I think. Looking at mnaz's banner as I write this and wonder? is that what the Holy Land looks like. La tensión entre campesinos y terratenientes, sector donde predominan los productores de soja brasileños, ha crecido desde la llegada de Fernando Lugo al gobierno en 2008, cuando prometió llevar adelante la Reforma Agraria y resolver el problema de las “tierras malhabidas”, grandes superficies de terrenos fiscales que el dictador Stroessner distribuyó entre militares y seguidores, como el acaudalado Blas Riquelme, el “Carlos Slim paraguayo”, según la definición de Martín Almada, el principal activista de derechos humanos del país.

El ex obispo Lugo tuvo como principal sostén social y electoral al campesinado, que ya no lo respalda en la forma que lo hizo años atrás.

“Ya le dejamos de creer al presidente, el no nos está cumpliendo las promesas. Después de esta masacre nombró a personajes corruptos y de muy malos antecedentes. El gobierno que había prometido hacer la reforma agraria está olvidando su compromiso y está nombrando a colorados corruptos”, dice Quiroga a este diario.

Se refiere al nombramiento como ministro de Interior de Rubén Candia Amarilla, miembro del stronista Partido Colorado, quien al asumir prometió mano dura contra los campesinos y anunció que de ahora en más los desalojos de las estancias ocupadas se realizarán sin establecer diálogo con los “carperos”.

“Lugo tuvo que dar un paso atrás y aceptar a gente del Partido Colorado, fue una imposición de los sectores más reaccionarios, que dejó a un sector de los campesinos descontentos con el presidente, esto es verdad. Y al mismo tiempo hay otros campesinos que todavía le tienen confianza y lo respaldan críticamente, como un mal menor, porque si cae ahora sin concluir su mandato, que se acaba en 2013, será una victoria de las fuerzas conservadoras”, sostiene Martín Almada, quien opina que está en curso un plan para desestabilizar a Lugo.

El enfrentamiento causó un tsunami político en Paraguay con repercusiones aún imprevisibles sobre el destino del primer gobierno sin vínculos con el stronismo tras el fin de la dictadura. “Acá sigue candente la situación, la derecha está muy metida en todo esto”, dijo Magui Balbuena, de Coordinadora Nacional por la Recuperación de las Tierras Malhabidas.

“La masacre del departamento de Camindeyú fue consecuencia de un conflicto de clases histórico en la sociedad paraguaya, producto del sostenimiento por parte de los tres poderes del Estado de un sistema de acumulación y acaparamiento de las tierras en manos de unos pocos... la violencia seguirá si no se inicia de una vez por todas la devolución de las tierras que pertenecen al pueblo paraguayo, que hoy están en manos de personas no sujeta a Reforma Agraria”, señala un comunicado de la Coordinadora por la Recuperación de las Tierras Malhabidas.

I guess , as Argentinian, I´m not the indicated one o be too much surprised about elected presidents with their mandatos ending (for different apparent reasons) before their time ... but this congress formality rush involved in deleting the paraguayan president in 2012 it´s somehow surprising. It also feels odd that as the hours pass what you read sounds each time more like "crónica de una muerte anunciada..." ...

found out that Patrick Cockburn is dead but Counterpunch is still going...

back to work today suited strange... for a moment!... in half an hour there was enough information to fill the gap ... And around eleven o´clock while walking the distance towards the main building I noticed three guys (around twenty) in the patio walking with gomeras in hand ... I told to the authorities and they told me that there were a lot of attempts to steal the school during vacations and that they broke some glasses -specially during weekends- and that in the last weeks we are in the influence area of a banda that also attacks the neighbors despite the calls to the police (there is a comisaría five blocks away...)... I hope they get tired soon and don´t damage anyone....

the only day that in Cuba I bought the Granma, I read about the Colorado shootings ... it was in the "internacionales" recuadro and it was written in a way that made me think that it happened a long time ago (maybe something in the time verbs use and myself having no idea about the movie or twenty days without reading newspapers or watching tv, I have to re-read it...). Here´s a Gelman article about it, with a kind of without-doubts-assertive-title that frightens a little...
