oz, revisited

Post by mnaz » September 21st, 2012, 4:42 pm

a cyclone swept the parched plain
and dorothy rose up in a tempest swirl
killed the eastern witch in a downward crash
at zucotti park, little people gathered

munchkins pointed to a golden road
across the dust bowl of hapless farmers
rusted tin workingmen reduced to machines
onto the great and powerful oz

the smoke-filled wizard had a price
kill the money changers in witch's castle
he bet you would fail; you bear their sins
the conscripted minions, flying simians

unto the great towers
liars, tigers and bears, oh my
to seek audience with obfuscation
shock and awe hallucination

I liked the poem a lot, thank you.

Lions and tigers and Collateralized Debt Obligations
He sold Dorothy CDO's and then bet they would fail.

yes jack, exactly.

the little people were protesting the wicked witch of the east (wall street, etc.) in hard times even 110+ years ago.

and don't get me started about those protean, smoke-and-mirrors politicians . . .

of course, frank baum's grandson (and many/most others) deny that the story was written as allegory . . .

Some politicians are easier on my nerves than others.

There was good story on litkicks called Dorothy is Pissed.

Tried to find it but it is gone :(

Trying to remember what she was pissed about, Bush I think.

Mencken predicted W. Bush's presidency years before it happened:
“As democracy is perfected, the office of president represents, more and more closely, the inner soul of the people. On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.”

I checked out the links, sounds like there is a simple solution to our debt problem according to the libertarians. Fiat Money?

I don't know enough about it to say if they are right but I am reminded of another HLM qoute.

“For every problem there is a solution which is simple, clean and wrong.”
