American Reservation

Post by Atehequa » November 16th, 2012, 9:24 am

Within this divided nation we must live
Burdened by the homage we are expected to give
As they resume their quarrel after saluting old glory
Horns blowing, blue and red banners flying
Ever at odds while their nation is rapidly dying
A sad enough ending for an even sadder story

Throw your accursed blue or red banners down
And both sides will whip you out of town
They will have no objection to their fight
Consumed with squabbling they fail to understand
The minds of all others living in this dying land
Millions just like us beyond their near sight

The American dream sleeps with the dead
Not in tent cities, cold ground for a child's bed
Sad days, troubled times and grim revelations
Cutbacks, pink slips and let go on a Friday
Unpaid mortgages, forced evictions, moving away
Americans of all colors living on reservations

Lady Liberty, that torch bearing heartless witch
How sweetly she embraces only the rich
Sourly disregarding everyone else as fools
Bore upon a litter across a white marble floor
Carried upon the backs of the working poor
Plagued by corporate shills and government tools

Our numbers grow with each new painful day
What else do we have can they take away ?
Our children’s future we should be worried about
Living in poverty on your American reservation
Your vast numbers and having the realization
Their few guarded gates can never keep us out

The total triumph of
totalitarian plutocracy
I am a loser,
I have reconciled myself to it
not so much a reservation as an asylum for me
I am the wretched refuse of teeming shores
Kafka without a sense of humor
all that keeps me going these days, is guitars, cadilacs, hillbilly music and poetry

thanks for the poetry
an accurate poem 8)

AWESOME- nice
reason is over rated, as is logic and common sense-i much prefer the passions of a crazy old woman, cats and dogs and jungle foliage- tropic rain-and a defined sense of who brings the stars up at night and the sun up in the morning---

Thanks. I was kind of inspired by something Russell Means once said.

It has to be this way,
humans are slow learners...
and sometimes smell funny
