ulysses as introduction

Post by sweetwater » June 1st, 2013, 11:52 am

as in stated in a letter ...

do you not think the search for heroics damn vulgar ?

i am sure however that the whole structure of heroism, and always was, a damned lie and that there cannot be any substitute for individual passion as the motive power of everything

... james joyce

ulysses is one outcome of that letter and its sentiments. It is a protest against the squalid codes of chivalric militarism and against the sad machismo of sexual conquest

is he an anti-heroe? something else...? a difficult to read myth? :)

My only attempts to Ulysess were Homero and Moravia´s ones and my only attempt to Joyce was an spanish translation of "Dublineses" . .. A link to attempts of spanish language natives at that book (mmm... no idea if Borges fit at that totally):

A fragment of Ulysses cited in that site, it sounds interesting and not at all imposible to read, what do you think?

He saw them three by three, approaching girls, in green, in rose, in russet, entwining, per l'aer perso in mauve, in purple, quella pacifica oriafiamma, in gold of oriflamme, di rimirar fe piu ardenti. But I old men, penitent, leadenfooted, underdarkneath the night: mouth south: tomb womb.
