this poem walks between an old boat
and the beach wrapped in a towel
it thinks it's a young girl
outriggers keep it from flipping over
white rabbit takes off his face
to show a black one beneath
down on the pier a wise man
or a bum with the light behind him
looks up from the book he
holds open in his hands
worn fence posts lead off to distance
and don't everyone wish
they was far away?
show me some buildings, even churches,
or a woman bent forward on the stairs
trying to be released
we have all captured each other now
constantly in touch
& the old phone booths
stand vacant
stand vacant
stand vacant
Doll, you may have found a place of rest but I'm still on the trail.

Re: stand vacant
that's why i dig the desert.
i can literally be far away ...
but even on bare rock and sky, in space,
even on the pier, or on main street,
it comes down to where your mind takes you ...
