moving deeper into the season
is what we do
is what we do
we do not try for poetry
poetry tries for us
first one then another
a voice here
a voice there
the rains swell the rivers
and everything jams on

Job birds
Little brave birds
Living off human scraps
Some love to feed them
Big rats
All over GWU
Tuition 61,000 bucks per year
Starbucks a homeless hotel
Sign of the times
They quit staying open all night
Life precious
Even hopeless
Nothing matters....really in the end
I know the rivers run
Music soothes
Snow is magical, but cold...freezing
Hot days are a mutha*?}#\{{#\\<{}||
But on the beach another thing entirely
Jam
About jam
Laying it on the land

the predator as much
in the matrix as the prey
if the battery fits use it
the Ten Commandments:
Jam Jam Jam Jam Jam
Jam Jam Jam Jam Jam
and the greatest of these is love
use it - use it all
from the grand jury room
to the halfway houses
from the high-wire artist
to the fast food worker
o Lord my soul pants for you
in a dry and arid land
where the horses are nameless
that carry us & no monster can mark us for sheep
cause we're bringin' it on
and takin' it there

Basho ya old jitterbugging
grasshopper eating
rice wine swilling
sit on your frog rock
i got offered a job today
driving forklift in an aluminum foundry
for nine bucks an hour american
do ya know how god-awful HOT it is
in an aluminum foundry?
it's god-awful HOT in an aluminum foundry
in JANUARY not to mention JULY
like you or one of your fellow poets
said once upon a time
i would rather wag my tail
in the mud
even if the mud is all dried up
hell is hell and will be here
soon enough and that's my jam
& i'm stickin' to it !

there's a moth just landed
on my coffee cup
he's sitting very still
but his antenna are out
then I blacked out
dreamed about a blowout
thought about a breakout
maybe a phaseout
ducking the fallout
my baby got such a nice pout
she helps me out with my trout
she's everything every man needs in every way
she knocks me out three or five times a day
o I've tried out & I've struck out
and I was in line for the promised payout
8:30 a.m. & already 90 degrees
i don't believe in buy one get one free
but you can take tyranny and shove it up deep
I been worked out
been worn out
wiped out & gone without
but I'm still jamming
and I remain standing
Doll, you may have found a place of rest but I'm still on the trail.

version two second thoughts

GWU
the foggy bottom/Georgetown blues
I worked down on the river
down behind M st NW
those were the days of Mary Hopkin songs,
college girls and bell jars
oh well
Luke the Drifter said it best
"We're still a'livin so every things okay"

I don't owe enough money
that's my problem
I wish I owed a million bucks to the company store
man that's what I call job security
I am dust in the wind
a marginal man
the metafiscal homelessness blues

sing them away for me
Clay

second thoughts
version two

GWU
the Foggy Bottom?Georgetown blues
I used to work for a concrete company back of M street NW, right on the river
them were the days my friend, Mary Hopkin songs and
college girls and bell jars
oh well
Luke the Drifter said it best.

kay"
I wish Saint jack was still livin
he would be writing spontaneous code if he was still here. But i guess he still is, kind of like LR is still here 8)

I don't owe enough money
that's my problem.

I wish I owed a million bucks to the company store man!

that's what I call job security
I am dust in the wind
a marginal man
the metafiscal homelessness blues

sing them away for me

version three second and third thoughts — after the after thoughts.

GWU
the foggy bottom/Georgetown blues
I worked down on the river
down behind M st NW
those were the days of Mary Hopkin songs,
college girls and bell jars
oh well
Luke the Drifter said it best
"We're still a'livin so every things okay"

I don't owe enough money
that's my problem
I wish I owed a million bucks to the company store
Man that's what I call job security!
I feel like a rich man but
I am just dust in the wind
a marginal man
with the metafiscal homelessness blues

sing them away for me
Clay
