he used to come to AA meetings back when gordon and i were still happy- going to meetings running the shop and - jess and mike were small then- all the AA surfer boys hung out at our house- a few times katchi brought us wet ones from tahiti nui in hanalei- mark was a short stocky dude that worked hard somewhere-
i dont remeber why he drank- only that he was never coming back-
he was living in wahinha - where history has been underfoot forever- and the menehune can be felt all around- you can hear the river so loud sometimes-
mark had walked into a party that was not going to end- he hung himself- the -whole story of people on kauai is long and even longer- the sadness- the joy- the beauty- the not so pretty-
and the ugly-
one guy i knew told me he had a dream that he died and he was in this place with all the dead addicts- that it was all gray- that creeped me out- more than alot of things- there were times when i saw things i didnt want to see-
i heard those little kids in the sand that day- it was so hot- i had to drag my body to the river- and this little boy said'you had a bad guy, but i got rid of him'
i think he did
timeless days and nights where the seams of salvadore dali and metaphysical eyelids drape the room like butterflies in the august sunlight in a field-
i guess i understand what happened- ... that conveyer belt was never going to stop= and there was never going to be enough- insatiable- lonely- he said 'fuck it'
but even the NA on kauai is tolerable- compared to the alternative DUDE that is knarly---
love to you mark-  :| :P
