hitchhiking through angst

Post by saw » November 7th, 2013, 10:14 am

threw on that ratty knapsack
I traipsed into the woods with a million times
to escape the wrath of country parents
tryin to raise their kids in the big city

cashed in all those ancient silver dollars
I was collecting cause it was something to do,
met my buddy Al on US Route 1
and we stuck out our defiant thumbs

school was stupid
teachers were worse
parents were ridiculous
the road was the only fitting place

for long-haired adventurers
like us
travelin' men.....well maybe more like goofy kids
skinflint wannabe rebels, so we left

it all behind, headed' south
warm beaches only sensible place to live
passengers of strange strangers
with working automobiles and kind hearts

and money to put gas in the tank and sometimes
buy us a cheeseburger, so many rides
over and over so long ago
I've forgotten every single face
If you do not change your direction
you may end up where you are heading

This is what I like. An opening into another's life, another time, another experience. These moments and experiences are gold dust even if looking back they seem less so, because we have become less so maybe...Good poetry, thumbs up to this 8)

Doll, you may have found a place of rest but I'm still on the trail.
