Springtime in west Texas

Spring not only awakens the birds and bees and all the trees in west Texas but the winds start to blow. Up from the east, down from the north, heading south towards Mexico...it blows hard.

Around here in springtime, it is not unusual for telephone poles to snap, roofs to lift, and the skies are decorated with decarded plastic bags which bob about like crazy kites. I went out this morning with the dogs but didn't stay long as the wind chill and my hair beating my face was most unpleasant.

All day long the air conditioner will rattle, making you wonder if it will sprout wings and fly away and the windows will shake in my studio as the tree next to them beat a tempo only the wild things can dance to. The doves hunker down on the branches, feathers flipping up and down in the gusts, looking like overused dust rags.

All week, the winds are predicted to blow, its that time of year. Our brief respite is over, where the beauty of the desert in spring was blooming its head off...now it will just blow your head off. The winds do another thing to me, the dust not only seeps through the cracks and crevices but into my soul. The winds make me restless, distroy the calm not only outside but inside me as well. Everything is unsettled, nothing grounded...even concrete can take wing. It is springtime in west Texas.

West Texas winds hunh? Sounds gritty. Doesn't sound like my cup of springtime tea....

I dislike wind....love breezes....dislike wind....

We get some horratious(my word) winds here too and they always put me on edge....I dislike wind....

Mousey, around here the winds blow pretty continuously from March to May and then start up again in the fall. (Our flag should be a walmart bag hanging from a cactus.) After a few days of blowing in the wind (sic), my nerves tend to get on edge but it's a whole site better than a hurricane, earthquake, tsunami, volcano, blizzard, flood or other disaster that people have to endure...so I shouldn't complain. That being said...I am sure sick and tired of the wind! Hah!

Hey Soozen....

I can definitely relate. I'm pretty much in the same boat, here on this hilltop in southern Nevada.... the wind is relentless.... I'm tempted to say I bought it with me.... all of this wind and rain.... but I know better... (hehehe). This hardcore desert has gone green on me!.... and the wildflowers are everywhere... I'm not sure what to make of it.... Thanks for the read.... enjoyed it.

O there you are traveler...just about the time Cec and I get to wondering about you, you show up....funny how that works!

the whole Southwest is blooming like crazy! My trip to San Antonio next week should be amazing with all the wildflowers all along the interstate.
