the Letter

the Letter
[dated 04-23-03]

i remember the time when your letter
came wrapped in an envelope
hand-picked by your own choosing
and within -

three sheets of paper
each delicately written upon
the words of longing
...of love
...of desire
...of emotion
in perfect longhand,

dipped in your favorite ink
the same color as your eyes
retracing your thoughts
revisiting your dreams
restating your intent
when we were to meet again.

i remember my feelings
when i received that letter
the fragrant scent
from your delicate hand
mailed across country
with that special stamp
hand-picked to fit the occasion
and licked by your wet tongue
that also sealed the envelope.

i used to hold that post
and finger my name addressed
as if you were whispering to me
until my anticipation no longer
could wait and with my excitement
i opened your sealed words

and there revealed, unmasked
i read each and every word
and could feel the pressure
of your pen held gently
between your fingers, pressing
the need to communicate what
your heart beat in rhythm
to what kept us apart for so long.

the letter became so much you
that i pressed it close to me
and knew that i could hear
those words whenever i wanted you
simply by opening that envelope
...that thin paper treasure
speaking volumes of memories
to be tucked away in the
darkness of my private drawer.

love,
Cecil

Doll, you may have found a place of rest but I'm still on the trail.

the feel of someone's handwriting is so powerful, and sadly disappearing to e-mail and the like......nothing like getting one, but also nice to send one
If you do not change your direction
you may end up where you are heading
