year of the horse

Post by revolutionR » January 13th, 2014, 3:07 am

In the rain of rats a mustache flies by
given the ungodly hour I hear a saxophone die
the moon was like a forbidden coin in the window
the alley was like a junkie whose veins had collapsed
a dead parade spoke like a smoking paper dragon
the shadows wandered through the poet's voice
until dawn when the newspapers swept down
like lost jazz notes floating from mysterious orifices
Bobby Kaufman walked along Grant avenue like a ghost
1955 was still alive after the 20th century passed out
the hungover streets still dreamed of the cheap hotel
where the last night's crazy words slept on the ocean floor
a match box universe arrived in time for the year of the horse

an imagination sandwich overflowing with freshness
i can taste the lines cast out to my hunger for words
fulfilled and reaching for a swallow of a good ale...

i breathe in your response
and breathe out a mural
air-brushed and glowing

images are images by the pound or the hour
impressions are what remains
so then there are only so many images
when all is said and done
even though they seem infinite
the impression we are left with
