The American Novel Since 1945
Lecture 9 - Jack Kerouac, On the Road (cont.)

If you ever doubt that the legend and the dream of On the Road is alive and is powerful in art, literary art and visual art, today, all you need to do is look at a very recent work of digital art.

that teacher in the vid - I think between her legs is a vast prairie and that prairie is roamed of wild horses & the stomachs of those wild horses are full of well chewed grass -

sorry I thought you missed it.

spent about twelve years in college
started in 1959 last attended in 1972 or there abouts
trying to remember how it was sitting there like little niggers at the mercy of some neurotic professor. And taking notes. Had some great teachers too, I been watching a lot of the gay professor who used to be a dedicated fundamentalist Christian. Thinking how it would feel to be in his class. Weird.

Learning a lot about the New Testament. Amazing how little I know about that.

Sometimes I feel like I have a little neon sign above my head that says "no woman no cry"

I finally figured out what I really need. Yes I don't need a woman. I need a Buick.

i saw a ghost buick driver once - in the middle of winter too - just the driver - not the car -
it was cold that night too and i was with a friend - he saw the ghost driver too - we didn't know it was a ghost driver 'til after though - yeah, one of those -

might not have been a ghost though since it's likely only our brains are haunted -

Two white doves intended to symbolize peace were attacked by a crow and a seagull as they flew outside the Vatican

if them two doves were up here they wouldn't need to be attacked - they just freeze solid flying from place to place and fall right out the sky - hardly any bird flying here at the moment - below zero every night and gets to just a few degrees above during the day - I'm expecting reindeer & polar bears in the yard any day ...

When I saw that bit about the doves I got to thinking about the bit about the Jews are always looking for omens.

Oh well, she wrote you don't know what you got till it's goneI liked reading sad luck dame a lot, most of the time I never knew where she was going with it but it was just so interesting to read along and jam with her. I Miss hester too, 'narrow' edgy poetry
Nothing much in the news today except farts, a barn in Germany blew up because the cows were farting so much.

I have not been of a mind to jam but been reading along on the poetry board.

Another cold front blew through early this morning, these texas blue northern's are like freight trains you can here them chugging in from far away. I been reading Clay's book, the of essays from 2004
He had a good eye for the news miss him too
hell I even miss myself
where the hell have I gone

I am going to be a Zen Buddhist after my next death
Well I guess I am still here on studio eight so that is good news.
I have gone back to touch typing and not been much of a mind to edit typos either sorry.
I got a bad case of attention defecation disorder. I will fix them later I hope.

If not for the weed I would not write at all, what I need is a good mood med but the problem with the weed is I am so got dam tired for days after I smoke. but my doctor thinks it is my sleep that is fucked up I wake up with my heart racing and short of breath, scary shit when I think about dying in my sleep because I stopped breathing
speaking of breathing and the part of the brain that controls automatic breathing >>
been watching this guy from Standforddotedu going to put link ]here a physical anthropologist talking a bout a primate brains, the part of the brain that controls automatic breathing. Read an article about the boy who could not fall asleep or he would die.
Me I want a good death, I think I would like to be as conscious as possible. But that is probably because I have never died before, if I had been here before, I mean if I remember past lives would I remember my past deaths too. I don't worry about it steve, I just lean on Jesus but I think it is interesting, maybe I do remember how I died :?
No point in worrying about a good death, you can't save a saint.
and that is about as good a death as I could hope for, last thing Kerouac did was write a little bit before he got dead.

I am still a want to be anthropologist I guess.
physical anthropology was one of the last courses I took in college, interesting but one night I went to a class stoned on mescaline and I weirded out on sacred turtles and statistics. On Chi squares and black widow spiders., hallucinogenic orgasms and Abortions.

I been thinking about weirdness a lot, little pieces of my life's weirdness come floating up to me in my dotage, like a dementia of some old fart who can tell you what he had breakfast fifty years ago. Oh well or anyway ........ fifty one years ago I bought a sport coat that was a lot of money because I wanted to look like a college professor, how weird it that? I wanted to be a working a class hero and a intellectual. That was the year between crazy mike's death and Lee H. O's magic bullet

They were my Holden Caufield years, but I was about twenty one though, and too old to be young I guess.

ramble ramble
score and gamble
man dies from heart attack in front of fire station in Washington D.C. while fireman watches from across the street standing in the doorway of a firehouse.
all the news that is fit to the blues

also ,,,,..//////////>>>>>>>>>
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YWZAL64E0DI
That professor got another lecture on youtube about whether humans are just another primate, going to read some chimpanzee poetry while I think about that, or maybe look at my elephant art.

good news for today
news I can use

8)

most weird thing for me was to be here as in anyplace at anytime - that there is anything at all is what gets me -

and that's today's jam

being weird is not being here when I am here
there is another way
I just need to catch the wind
and stop remembering

...Before the beginning, there was this turtle. And the turtle was alone ...

1962-1963
selective service
they had my number
and Vietnam was just a twinkle in John F. Kennedy's eye
and I was crazy
