time line
gonna be fine
old houses sinking
into the earth
birth is a bitch
& so's the dying
the in-between can make ya mean
not any survive whole & clean
words vibrate
grow
cover the land
Doll, you may have found a place of rest but I'm still on the trail.

fine line
on a time line
cross the time
get out of line
and life's a struggle
hustle and bustle
can make you mean
got to reach out
grab gravity by the throat
and break free
fly above the curve
see the world
see the world
as another road side attraction

still cool in the morning
zip up my sweatshirt
put my feet on the pedals
spin that crank and the wheels
move
begin to sing their song
over the ridges
up tough & tasked
down - gravity flies you
last night's cold moon
& old age reaching for me
mist over the wetlands
but the tops of the hills in the sun
I'm not so much gone as
moving moving moving
rode the top of the ridge for two miles
then rest on the pedals because
the road begins to go down
I've done this run before
& swore not to do it again
but speed picks up
the whir of the wheels beginning to really sing
til that & the wind in your ears
is all you can hear
at the bottom a 90 degree curve
you are on a solid steel double diamond track bike frame this time
no aluminum here - she's not gonna give you
what you ask just because you ask it
she's a willful child & will shoot you off that curve
right into the trees - knock your stupid old ass out
or break your neck
if you can't bend her to your needs
locked in that delicious struggle
halfway into the curve you're riding the edge of the tipping point
& AND RUNNING OUT OF ROOM
you regret every word you've ever said
and vow silence to the end of your days
if you can only get away with this
one more time
then you realize you've got it
you've damn well up & gone to hell GOT IT
drop a gear & pour it into the pedals pump & PUMP
the bike & you come back to the vertical
you shoot across the flats like shot from a rifle
with summer on the doorstep
shamelessly you forget that vow of silence only a split moment before
& shout to the skies FUCK ME BABY
JAM THAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Doll, you may have found a place of rest but I'm still on the trail.

old age got me
the pressure is off
I just pedal to keep my knees from locking up
a morning ritual now
like breakfast tea
not that superstitious
but I am convinced
if I break the ritual
God will strike me down
with loving kindness
and I will not live to see
another spring

if God can change over time
why can't I?
I am on a fools errand
to save the world
Jesus Christ died for nothing I suppose

freewill and epigenetics
give me that old time religion
it was good enough for Ronald Reagan
it;s good enough for me

poetry and politics and jam
like free bread and circuses for me
so happy to be a man child in the promised land
where even squares like me can have ball
at the studio eight jam

Made to move
We are
We are
Nomads in a caravan
Gypsies climbing down
from our tree houses
Rattle-rattle train
Slow moving in the
rain
Jam on me!!!
