Banksy - Art Attack

Post by lescaret » March 28th, 2005, 9:05 am

Last week, a shadowy British artist going by the name of "Banksy", infiltrated four major NY art museums and hung his own art on the walls. Not all were discovered at once and hung for some time before being discovered and removed.

Here's one, for example, that went into the Brooklyn Museum:

And this one adorned the walls of the Metroplitan:

Finally, for a link to the coverage of this art attack, go here to this amazingly great web site that covers "street art":

As for Banksy, he had this to say about his raid on the art establishment (text of the interview found at the woostercollective site):

"These Galleries are just trophy cabinets for a handful of millionaires. The public never has any real say in what art they see. Its good to screw with the selection process sometimes. 'Comfort the disturbed, and disturb the comfortable' as Eleanor Roosevelt once said."

Eleanor Roosevelt's apothegm is feelingly appropriate for contemporary art.

Thanks for the great postings this morning, lescaret.

Rain today in California-- but the Austrian Suite still sports its two tvs, both churning out propaganda for the evangelical bomb-droppers and the convinced miscreants who crank the wank of government and belay our taxes.

Great links and information.

lescaret--I can't begin to tell you how much I support the type of insurgency. We should all be doing it.
