off the beaten path the eyes of the mystic wolf,
her breath is timeless
I feel her wanting, she feels mine
the sunlight has no resistance to leafless trees in bud
the mica sparkles in faces of stream washed smooth gray
the creek is gurgling like bing crosby
the insects are awake and ready to munch
on fallen giants whose legs could no longer support them
ah the beauty of decay
toddler squirrels are the reason we call a human squirrelly
they fall out of trees more than I do,
I got me a damn nice log to support my ass while I write this here poem
the hikers on the trampled trail are a mere thirty feet away
they always look down at their feet which brings a slew of metaphors
into my head, so I repeat to myself a little whispered visitation
Damn, I'm only thirty feet from ordinary
thirty feet from ordinary
thirty feet from ordinary
