you put the junk word in the junk meaning
you put the jazz in the jesus
you put the bop in the bam a lam be bop
you put the metaphor for the pain in pain
you put the meaning of death at the end of life
you put the ultimate question on hold
you put everything in perspective, another fix
there are no answers, there are no questions
there are no peanuts in the circus
and no circus in the peanuts, only what you put there
you put the best for last and the last for final rest
you put the moon in a bottle of marbles
you put the coin in the jukebox and play the song
you put your hand of cards down on the table
you play the hand you were dealt
you can't cheat death, you can't put the cat back in the bag
you think of killing the pain when the pain is killing you
you have no word for pain that is bigger then you
you write the poem as a kind of killer of feeling
so you can feel all that much more
you kind of don't make much sense that way
you don't give a rat fuck you just play out your bad luck

you know it makes no difference and its better that way
you read another Bukowski poem and try to tough it out
you start to fall asleep, and you hear her laugh like she's there
