the gray light sort of trickles in
on a day that

every day there are things that you can count on
whether ya like it or not
some will talk and make no sense, it is a given

i cannot obey

the system is broken
to we who are outspoken
if you don't buck the system
the system will chuck you regardless

there is no free luck lunch
or so I have been told too much
and in some very way this is so
but what's a poor poet to do
what I know is nothing is free
not even the words in the poem
but if nothing is free, then nothing is true
and so it goes, coming around and going through

so, we chose our words well, or they chose us
we can only let them contradict us until they cannot
until we allow them to tell us what they have to say
and when it comes clear there be areas that are gray
but understanding this is not enough, it's beyond black
it is beyond white, we have only begun to see the light

the first light is the best light, are are the first words
no matter how ragged they come, let the rags fall away
let the fragments of our threadbare imaginations unravel
and the figments speak for themselves in the great untangle

been practicing in the front yard here on the farm- im not smoking cigarettes which has me almost certifiably crazy- why the investment in being a 'good girl?'
the mother of sons- on bad days i cll them sons of a bitch- my youngest thinks its funny- my older one a lil more serious- so deep it can be difficult on those days when i am craving a shallow boring life- where the wars and atrocities of what is happening outside my front door are about to be ignored- i am not going to hook up tv- yeah right- maybe== i have this whole book half written and a whole bunch of canvas that is calling to me- like what about the movie theatre? cable has made us all lazy-spoiled=eating far too much while eating popcorn- what if you had to walk to and from the movie? my favorite meeting is called NIGHT OWLS- IT IS CRAZY - like the rocky mountain picture show of AA- since i am not going there for 'singing too loud' i guess i am not a good girl after all- but sane- serene and all that=but maybe that lil voice that says
fuck it' one day might prevail-but not today
