All men are blind
I've longed for just one;
A hope for love to be mine;
Someone to hold after the morning sun;
But I fear that all men are blind.
Or is it just me;
The woman who sits and waits;
To much decrepit for eyes to see
And the mirror that seems to break.
I watch the world pass by;
I'm alone in gestures deep;
Littered by the demons who lie
Whilst they laugh at the longing I keep.
Sometimes I wonder much;
Looking to grasp a straying set of eyes;
Only hoping for just one touch
To soothe my desire on this tide.
So this is how I spend my nights
Waiting for the hope of rhyme;
Keeping a smile while I fight
If only for the matter of time.
I've longed for just one;
A hope for love to be mine;
Someone to hold after the morning sun;
But alas I fear that all men are blind.
A hope for love to be mine;
Someone to hold after the morning sun;
But I fear that all men are blind.
Or is it just me;
The woman who sits and waits;
To much decrepit for eyes to see

Re: All men are blind
i don't have any advice for you but just wanted to say i like your poem here.
keep at the good work!

Re: All men are blind
Like the way you include "all" men but are nice enough to concede "...or is it me? Which probably needs a question mark to help me through the thoughts a bit.
Your sentiments seem real, not accusatory. "Turn the blind eye toward all the fools and be patient" would be my advice. It ain't ALL of us that wouldn't mind seeing you for what you are.
Enjoyed the poem. Thanks for posting.

Re: All men are blind
here is another perspective, what comes first, the poem, or the purported
message of the poem? In other words was a poem written to deal with
a universal problem, or a personal one? Not that a poem cannot handle
either one. The line..."all men are blind" could be taken as a universal
issue...John Lennon said..."its easy living with eyes closed"

Re: All men are blind
i like where you're going with those questions, rev.
somebody much smarter than me said often the most intensely personal is also the universal...
i'm paraphrasing here.
Tjflowers is dealing with (what it sounds like to me) a personal issue. but who hasn't felt that way at some point? imo the personal and universal are often the same thing. thats the trick tho, for me, i often steer away from sharing too much of my shit in my head out of fear that i'm all alone.
eh?
so props to Tjflowers, great guts!

Re: All men are blind
That fear of being all alone...is why I began writing poetry to begin with.
First I felt afraid that I could not express myself, that I did not know
how to speak my mind. I felt alone, then I felt angry that I felt that way.
Then I tried to understand why I felt angry and alone. I realized that
I was introverted, but my inward reflection allowed me to realize also
that my personal situation was unique but it also was a product of society.
So then, I became aware, that I had to begin from that place, that I did not
have to live up to society's version the false ego. At this point, you either have
a poetic vision, or you become a rat in a maze of your own projections on what
is going on, you have to fit in to be excepted, you have to make it in society
you have to survive, you have to live up other peoples expectations, ect.
A person can write poetry for awhile to try to deal with inner insecurity
but there comes a point of departure, where you either cast all fate to
the wind, and become a poet, hear the calling, or you continue to dabble
in words.And even if you allow yourself to call yourself "a Poet" you will still
be dabbling, but now the babble begins to sound more like your own voice.
When you hear your own voice, you don't feel so all alone anymore, and
now you can direct your anger into verse. You have to trust your own voice.
That trust is gained by letting it all go. By freeing up that part of your mind
that is wild and also committed. And all this is just so much words, until
you live it, until it becomes you, until there an elimination of dross. Until your
will to speak to your anger (art), is more powerful then your fear of being
alone and angry. And this don't come easy, but you have to begin somewhere.
This intensely personal effect can be fraught with all sorts of shadow self.But
it is there that the most powerful stuff emerges. You can either write poetry
for others or you can write it for yourself. I believe that most intensely personal
is exactly commiserate with yourself. Only until you come to terms with that
will the universal aspect become apparent.

Re: All men are blind
To me it is an age old question. Are all men blind. I've put myself out there but Everytime I seem to scare men away. In trying to be just friends they find me attractive and tell me we should "hang out" but when I say "yes" they stand me up in the end. Or is it just me? I've come to trust myself and my personality; and many times it sparks interests of men but they always walk away after asking me out when they already know who I am and how I will stand my ground on my beliefs. So I guess this is like the question of the chicken and the egg, only with me and mine it's either all men are blind or is it just me.
