the long haul

never was one
to keep count,
to add up the
various shows
or know the exact
number of sculptures
sold, places played
words written, cause i'm
in it for the long haul
it's more about the
next creation & what
inspires it, fact is there is
no other way
to keep moving forward
except through learning
and movement
if you stay with it long enough
if you give your heart & soul
the recognition will come
the fact is that you know that
you would not change a thing
in your journey cause you know
your in it for the long haul

I've been in it for the long haul,
tall standing in my heeled boots,
looking out at the astute audience
staring my way, playing the part with
a rush and then a delay, an escalation
and then a slow down, and I'll give you the lowdown,
there are people out there listening! I'm insisting
it's true because they know me and they know you
and they have ears, y'hear? Some of them really dare
to open up and catch what's being said and good God,
it's sometimes like they've been raised from the dead,
the way they catch on to the rhythms and beats, and oh
those sweet sounding riffs on the piano or guitar, it gets
ya right in yer heart like darts were thrown and we're not
alone anymore and when we go home, we pick up the paints
and do a new canvas and next day get out and do it all again
'cause once we begin, we begin even though we began damn
near half a century ago, so it seems and I've got dreams that
keep on coming on the stream of the rise of the sun because
once I'm done, I'm not finished, 'cause then
then... then... I start all over again!
And it's all been a ball!
I'm in it for the long haul.
