my 5th viewing and i still don't have an answer: which one influenced the other?

They are of 2 different worlds. One being the harvest as I bare witness to it. The other an abstraction of stillness.

both r radiant.....the bright colors are illuminating.....i've become heavily aware of the art of the early 20th century of late, #2 is dazzling to me...

Which one was painted first and how much time passed until the next one?

Kurt, excuse my questions but I have a hunger to understand such things. Any thing to aid in my connecting the dots of the world I find fulfilling.

I painted the tomatoes first. It was a longing to create something exactly as i saw it, and portray the solitude I crave in my studio and in my meditations, that's why the blank flat environment.
The almost cubist one is as I have been painting my still life compositions for some time. The speed in it comes from the left over canvas used. I cut it off the larger piece in seconds and in a breath began and ended. George Braque is my muse in these pieces. He painted a huge number of still life pieces during the dawn of cubism and beyond.
I love the questions. They give me the opportunity to reexamine where I've been so I know where I'm going.

thx, Kurt, for the explanations. Also thx for the link to the Braque exhibition... I'm not well-versed in his history, having been exposed to just a few pieces of his. I need to do my homework, dammit! instead of other things that I've been preoccupied with lately.
