I killed Richard Brautigan

Post by mtmynd » November 20th, 2014, 12:45 pm

I killed Richard Brautigan
he was disappointed
saddened, grief’d out
by my lack of response

I know he thought I had
lost admiration in him
I should have told him sooner
that he blew my mind
but he blew out his own before
I could buy his next book

he dug being a writer

I killed him with a look.
the feeling of being watched over
by machines of love and grace
Brautigan walking down lower broadway
in Fells Point
Smiled at me
a beautific
shining smile
and I glared back at him
because where i was
there was no place for smiles
my world was dark and vicious

the first sailor I met when i reported to my first ship was a second class petty officer from Colorado that was deep into Brautigan. I knew little but was quickly indoctrinated . This passion for his writing rubbed off on me, and i will always associate his work, with my first time away from home.

you may end up where you are heading
