cliff - watercolour, ca. 1990
(the colours look a little too blue on the screen, though)

Dear Panta:

The colors ( or colours) may appear too blue, and that's always disappointing when one sees one's work digitized-- but the fluency of handling here is marvelous. There's a confidence with the brush that comes through unhesitatingly in each figure. And the weaving phalanx of figures carrying the eye upward to its apex in the precariously balanced figure at the top-- a masterful composition and execution.

Thanks for posting this.

Do you know the figure paintings of the American painter Eric Fischl?

Some of his watercolors approach your grace here.

But they don't achieve it. His work is stiff and wooden, in spite of the loose aqueous medium, compared to yours.

This ( link above) is a generously "imaged" web site on Fischl. As you look at the various pictures, try the link called "recent watercolors" and you'll locate some of the work I refer to.

But your wonderfully grounded, gravity-modulated painting is far superior to his.

Your fellow painter,

Zlatko

yes, this is a wonderful piece, panta
I've spent the past several minutes staring at it.

(as sound-track to this lovely piece, I refer you to the cut on Joy Urchins CD, called On the Precipice. It kept going through my head as I looked at this watercolor. On the Precipice is a little intense for some people, but I really like the piece.)

for those of you that don't have a copy of the CD like panta does, you can hear a clip from the piece I mentioned by going here:

http://barrygremillion.com/joyurchins.htm

it's the last cut
"These words don't make me a poet, these Eyes make me a poet."

The Poet's Eye

ah... thank you all for your very kind comments!

norman - i enjoyed fischl's website very much, and am feeling very honoured that you compared my work to his most amazing creations. thank you!

clay - am just now listening to 'on the precipice' and, yes, its aquatic sound, mingled with the song of rolling stones and pebbles, matches my painting quite well.
did i ever tell you that i really dig your music? (i think i did, but need to say it again). thanks for your comments!

cecil - thank you! watercolours are my most favourite medium (even though i don't even have 'professional' aquarells, as we call them, but am just using those simple kids' watercolours), and i use them a lot.

here's one more:

... ed. for several spelling mistakes (i'm a lousy typer).
