Principles

Post by sooZen » April 8th, 2005, 7:32 am

Principles
what does it mean?

defined:

A rule or standard, especially of good behavior: a man of principle.
The collectivity of moral or ethical standards or judgments: a decision based on principle rather than expediency.

My principles get in the way sometimes
standing on them, I am lofty
standing by them, I am apart
standing for them, I am inept

they become my standard
and yet they separate me
from understanding another

When it becomes a matter of principles
I lost my rationality and gave in
to the 'my principle'

I said, "it's the principle of the thing!"
and so doing...I lost the battle, won the war
she had her own principles
and could give a flying fuck
what mine were

Now, there is only silence and my principles...
Freedom's just another word...

sometimes, awash with emotion
i lose access to my principles all together.

the world becomes too loud
and i reach for the volume control
but just wind up changing the channel
to some station i'd rather not visit.

I have my principles.... (and to stand for them does not necessarily make me irrational or inept).

But I also have my own stubborn will....

The line between the two blurs at times, I suppose. There must be clues to tell me when. Maybe it's the, "only silence and my principles" result of which you write.... but then I've been getting a lot of that recently......

(this is why "principles" should be kept as simple and basic as possible, so as to strive for more universal truth in application)....

Nice read, Soozen.

GA...to "lose access to one's principles due to emotion"...seems familiar as does washing in emotion. I say this with a smile although I find what you say poignant.

Mnaz...I guess we all have principles of some sort or another but when one questions their principles because of a event or incident that brings them sharply into focus, the core of an individual is exposed.

When I question my principles...what is it that I rely on, believe, stand for? Ahh, and the will, the stubborn will...will what? will do? Hah!

Yes, you are right, the line blurs like the horizon on a hot day in the desert, wavering in the heat of the moment.

and Yes again...I too think I should keep it simple, as simple as possible and basic for what shaky place I could build without a secure foundation. (My principles are quaking.)

Universal truth....Hah! Love those words...

Thanks for the responses.

Peace,
