Still Life (A Leaving)

Post by 68degrees » February 18th, 2015, 11:32 pm

The difference between
her and all the rest is you
knew she didn’t mean it
when she said I love you

It was the shallowest of times
It was silverfish and dust feathers
It was cigarettes and an ashtray

She paused once to the left
of the birch tree before leaving,
one glorious arm sprouting
from her sleeve like
an extra limb

i don't know why
but i like my heart
and i like bullet proof glass

i don't know why
but i say goodbye
